Our Perfect Day in St. Anthony!
St. Anthony is well-known for its mysterious sand dunes and for holding the Fremont County Seat, but through the years, its residents have refused to let that inflate the simple, easy lifestyle they have come to love along Henry’s Fork of the Snake River.
After serving this community for as long as we have, we have come to learn a few things about St. Anthony. It’s a quiet place perfect for any family looking for a peaceful life, and there are a few places you don’t want to miss when touring around town. Here’s a glimpse at our perfect St. Anthony day.
Start With Our Locally-Owned Food Options
Whether you’re craving home-cooked breakfast with food found at the locally-owned Broulims, a grocery store that has been in Idaho for nearly 100 years, or prefer to grab lunch at Fong’s Restaurant or Big J’s Pizza & Burgers, you won’t go hungry in St. Anthony. Our population may be small, but our food options are diverse and tasty.
Be sure to check out these local restaurants before hitting up the dunes! You will need your energy, but if you need a snack while you are at the dunes, check out Glenwood Inc. They have been smoking and crafting some of the best local jerky in our region since 1975.
Find Thrill-Seeking Adventures at The Dunes
The attraction that puts St. Anthony on the map is by far one of the most fun ways to spend a day in Idaho. The dunes are the remnants of extinct volcanoes and span nearly 11,000 acres, stretching to nearly 400 feet tall. They are a natural marvel that scientists have been studying for generations, including the large population of wintering elk that call the dunes home. (This is actually one of the largest herds in the United States!)
But amid the natural observations and great views, there’s some unique fun to be had at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. Climbing, hiking, horseback riding, biking, and swimming are all permitted at the dunes. Thrill seekers can also rent off-road vehicles and cruise the desert landscape with ease, too! Plan your next summer adventure to the dunes to escape into a desert playground.
(St. Anthony Sand Dunes are closed during the winter.)
Relax at Elgin Lake
Whether you prefer the core-blasting challenge of paddle boarding or want to skim across the water’s surface in a kayak, Elgin Lake is the perfect place to explore one of Idaho’s greatest wonders. Nestled within the St. Anthony Sand Dunes, Elgin Lake offers visitors a quiet, restful experience and ground-level view of these gigantic wonders unlike anything else on land. Plus, the shallow waters offer a cool place to relax!
Our friends at Elgin Lake Adventures can rent kayaks or paddle boards for those in need of gear. This is also the perfect opportunity for families! Elgin Lake Adventures has found that Elgin Lake is the perfect spot for beginners or young children to learn how to kayak or paddleboard. If the kids love the rentals, why not buy a few kayaks or boards of your own?
